Charles Cecil’s Revolution Christmas Message 2017

2017. The end of another year. It’s been a
very busy year a Revolution – although we haven’t been in a position to talk too
much about it one of the things that we have done is moved to the Shambles, a
wonderful medieval street in the historic heart of York. It’s
inspirational to see these extraordinary buildings built so many hundreds of
years ago and still to this day it bustles and it’s full of life and it’s
full of people. It’s just a great place to be based. We’ve been working on new
versions of Broken Sword 5 which is fantastic because we can bring the games
to a new audience on new platforms but most of our work has been focused on a
prototype which is for us exploring how the adventure the future in the
adventure how we can create wonderful stories with great characters that move
around a compelling world and it’s very much looking forward to the future of
the adventure but also taking inspiration from some of the things that
we did previously. So Virtual Theatre is something that’s always been in my mind. The idea that characters walk around independently of each other is something
that we pioneered in our first game Lure of the Temptress and I always felt
frustrated that we never really developed. So in this fantastic position
of being able to explore what we believe one of these ideas could translate into
to make a great adventure game. I’d like to wish all of you are really happy
Christmas. Thank you so much for all the support and the passion which really
inspires us. It’s great to hear from you whether it’s games, our games that you’ve
loved playing, or places that you’ve visited or or whatever – it’s
enormously important to us and it thrills us when we hear from
people. So thank you so much for that. I’d also like to thank our team at
Revolution who have been a real pleasure to work with. It’s just great to have so
many talented people all working for a common goal so thank you for all of you
for everything. We look forward to 2018, communicating
with you what we’re going to be doing, and have a wonderful Christmas and all the
very best for 2018. Thank you!

  1. Thank YOU for the Broken Sword series, after all these years the Shadow of the Templars still inspires me, it's like a good book that gets better in time. It's like Star Wars in adventure games history, in my opinion – it's something special, that never been done before and something that really hard to overcome. Pure classic, piece of art with great backstory!

  2. Happy Christmas to you Revolution! I'm glad you are working on a new prototype, but I must admit the 2D versions of Broken Sword 1, 2 and 5 coupled with the story & puzzles were just the best. You don't need to do anything else other than keep making versions like this…

  3. I hope Beneath a Steel Sky 2 is in the pipeline – it(Beneath a Steel Sky) was the only storyline to combine humour with cyberpunk.

  4. I love your games so much ! I'm a french living in Clifton Moor, I always assumed you guys were french… don't know why. Then, one day, while talking to my wife about your games, I took the time to google your company, then realized you were at a walking distance (on a sunny day) ! It's like knowing you can meet Shigeru Myamoto or Hideo Kojima in your local Costa !!! Awesome =) I'm currently re-playing all your games with the best video output possible (on consoles though) and I have a great time. I beat the third one already, playing the 5th right now and the 1st and 2nd should arrive next week ! 15 years later and I'm still playing your games, you did an amazing job. I Can't wait for the 6th game. And, as a french, I always loved the voice actors you used, I hope you'll keep them.

  5. meh almost christmas again. See you in 6 months. 3 more months, 2 more months, 1 month TO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. 3 MORE WEEKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  6. Thank you so much Charles for all the wonderful hours of game-play that you've given me throughout the decades with your Broken Sword series that is part of my most favourite games ever! Thank you – I'm really looking forward to whatever comes next from you!
