Hi everyone. In this video, I will be showing
you how I made this custom Derpy Hooves. She has been painted using acrylic paints and
her mane, tail, and outfit has been sculpted with polymer clay.
Before you begin, you’ll need a My Little Pony toy figure with wings since Derpy is
a Pegasus. Oven-bake or air-dry clay, paintbrushes, paint palette, paint sealer, super glue.
Gray and blue paints for her coat; white, orange, and black paints for her eyes; yellow
for her mane and metallic red for her outfit. If you don’t have metallic red, then regular
red paint will work as well. Start by cutting off the pony’s mane and
tail. Cut as close as you can to the head. Ask an adult for help if you’re not old
enough to use sharp tools. Now, remove the factory-painted eyes and cutie
mark with nail polish remover. I recommend rinsing off the nail polish remover with water
to prevent the pony from disfiguring. Once the pony is ready, roll out three logs
of clay to make the back part of her mane. For the top part, sculpt this shape. And then
smooth on the smaller pieces. Sculpt and smooth out the clay until it becomes seamless.
Make the fur trim of the hat by rolling out a log of clay. Shape it into a ring so that
it’ll fit on her head. Then, sculpt this shape so that it’ll fit in the center of
the ring. Don’t forget to add a ball of fur to the hat.
Now, let’s make the fur trim for her boots. Roll out 4 logs of clay, flatten them, and
then wrap them around her legs. For her tail, start with this basic shape.
Then, smooth on the smaller pieces. After the clay hardens, super glue on her
tail. Hold the tail in position for at least a minute.
Now, let’s start painting! Derpy’s gray coat has a tint of blue, so
I mixed a bit of blue with gray paint to get this bluish-gray color.
This is after 4 layers of paint. You’ll need more or less layers depending on how
thin or thick your paint will be. Make sure you wait until the paint completely
dries before painting on the next layer. For her mane and tail, I’m going to use
this light yellow color. The Yellow Flame color from Apple Barrel was a bit too bright,
so I mixed in some white paint. This is after 3 layers of yellow paint.
For her hat and boots, I’m going to use this metallic red color.
I’m using a thin brush to carefully outline around the hat so that I don’t get any red
paint on the white fur trim. Now it’s easier to paint the rest of the hat.
Let’s move on to the boots. Again, take your time and try not to get red paint on
the white fur trim. If you do, it’s okay. You’ll just have to paint a lot of layers
of white paint over it to completely cover the red paint. This is after 4 layers of metallic
red paint. I’ve painted on this side of her eye. Now,
let’s do the other side. This is after 3 layers of each color. I went ahead and painted
on her reflections and eyelashes. Sorry, I also went ahead and painted on her
cutie mark. I couldn’t film this part because I have to get up close to the pony when painting
fine details. So, with the camera in front of me, I wasn’t able to do that.
After all the painting is done, protect the paint by brushing on a thin layer of paint
sealer. I’m using Liquitex Matte varnish which is different from the Mod Podge sealer
that I used in my previous videos. I like this brand better. It’s thinner, so it’s
so much easier to apply. So, this Derpy custom is now finished. I really
hope you enjoyed this tutorial. You can click on the images to watch my other
